Second legs in the Champions League aren’t just football ... they’re chaos, pressure, and narrative overload.
This week on The Semi-Informed Football Podcast, Marko and Mark break down a wild weekend across Europe before diving into the biggest question in football right now:
👉 Does momentum actually matter… or are we all just guessing?
We cover:
Then we get into the main event — Champions League second legs:
Predictions, debates, and a bit of classic Semi-Informed discussion!
Marko:
Hello everybody and welcome back to the Semi-Informed Football Podcast. It’s Mark here with Marko.
Today we’re going to wrap up what happened over the weekend — a lot of great games — and then dive into the Champions League second legs: predictions, expectations, all of that.
Let’s jump right in.
Marko — starting with the Premier League… Arsenal. What happened?
Mark:
I’ve been saying this all season — they’ve been lucky, consistent defensively, but they don’t have consistent goals.
In December, their top scorer was own goals. That tells you everything.
I also said — if they lost that Carabao Cup final to City, confidence would drop. And it did.
They lost that, then lost to Southampton, and now they’ve lost again… to Bournemouth.
Marko:
Yeah — Bournemouth beat them 2–1.
So now the gap to City is what, six points?
Mark:
Six points, yeah. But they play City next Sunday — massive game.
If City wins, they’re three points back with a game in hand. If they win that too, they go top.
Marko:
And Arsenal fans talking about goal difference… doesn’t matter if you lose both.
Mark:
Exactly.
Marko:
Alright — Tottenham. Losing 1–0 to Sunderland… what does that mean?
Mark:
They’re in the bottom three. 18th.
Two points off safety. West Ham are flying, Forest picked up a point…
This is dire. Really dire.
Marko:
And people are saying De Zerbi out?
Mark:
Yeah — and that would be, what, five managers this season?
Marko:
Insane.
Marko:
Alright — let’s go to Serie A.
Milan drop points badly. Inter win 4–3 against Como — absolute chaos game.
They’re now 9 points clear. Looks like they’re pulling away, but the real fight is for Champions League spots.
Mark:
Yeah — but what a game. Seven goals. Unreal.
Marko:
Okay — Bundesliga.
Bayern win 5–0… and they set a record?
Mark:
Yeah — Bundesliga record for most goals in a season. Record stood for over 40 years — back to the Beckenbauer era.
Marko:
That’s insane.
And look at that attack: Kane, Olise, Musiala, Gnabry…
If Davies gets healthy too — this team is ridiculous.
Mark:
And I’ll keep saying it — Olise is sensational.
Every team would want him. He’s that provider type we’re missing in football.
Marko:
Yeah — traditional creative player. So good on the ball.
Marko:
Alright — let’s get into the main event: Champions League second legs.
We’re going through all four ties.
Marko:
First up — Barcelona vs Atlético.
Barça had a red card in the first leg, still played well… but Atlético take the advantage.
Can Barcelona come back?
Mark:
They can. They’re one of the few teams that can.
Madrid, PSG… Barcelona are in that category.
But they’re missing key players — that hurts.
And Atlético getting that second goal? Massive.
Marko:
So what’s the approach?
Mark:
Atlético shouldn’t sit back. They should attack, get a third goal early — kill it.
Marko:
Prediction?
Mark:
2–1 Barcelona… but Atlético go through.
Marko:
I’m going bold — Barcelona tie it, extra time, and win it.
Marko:
Alright — Liverpool vs PSG.
PSG looked lethal.
Mark:
Liverpool should’ve been 2–0 up early. Poor finishing — Salah included.
Then PSG score… and Liverpool collapse mentally.
Marko:
Do they change anything?
Mark:
Honestly? No.
Slot’s been overthinking — too many formations, too much tinkering.
Anfield used to be a fortress… not anymore.
PSG win this.
Marko:
Yeah… I agree. 1–0 PSG. Professional job.
Is Slot in trouble?
Mark:
End of season, maybe. He inherited Klopp’s system — masked problems early.
But now? It’s showing.
Marko:
Arsenal vs Sporting — Arsenal got a late winner in the first leg.
Do they finish the job?
Mark:
Here’s the issue — at home, Arsenal give away goals.
That Bournemouth game was a disaster.
Their goalkeeper had the second-most touches… that’s a problem.
Marko:
So prediction?
Mark:
Sporting win 2–1, force extra time… and go through.
Marko:
I’ll go Arsenal — they bounce back, score a couple, get through.
Marko:
Final one — Bayern vs Madrid.
You always say: never count out Madrid.
Mark:
Never.
This is their competition.
Even when they’re struggling — they show up.
Marko:
Bayern have insane firepower though.
Mark:
They do — records everywhere:
But Madrid thrive in chaos.
Marko:
Neuer was massive in the first leg too.
Mark:
Yeah — but if Madrid win, I wouldn’t be surprised.
Marko:
I’ve got Bayern 1–0.
Mark:
2–2 — Bayern go through.
Mark:
Alright — controversy.
Ball boy stole Donnarumma’s penalty notes mid-game.
Marko:
Yeah… I mean… fair game?
Mark:
I don’t think that should be allowed.
Marko:
It’s part of the chaos. But yeah — probably shouldn’t happen.
Mark:
Future rule change?
Marko:
Maybe… or just control your notes better.
Marko:
Alright — thanks for listening.
Big games coming up Tuesday and Wednesday — should be incredible.
Challenge us on our predictions.
Until then…
Mark:
We’re keeping you…
Marko:
